Neuer Boeing-737NG-Simulator wird in Kooperation mit GECAT betrieben
Lufthansa Flight Training Berlin (LFT Berlin) is adding a second Boeing 737-800 simulator to its simulator fleet. In the coming weeks the new unit will be installed at its home base at LFT Berlin's training center at Schönefeld airport. With the operating lease model for the simulator Lufthansa Flight Training is embarking on a new path.

As part of a cooperative endeavor, the 737NG simulator is being leased from GE Capital Aviation Training (GECAT), part of the General Electric Company. A contract to this effect has been signed in Berlin. While the marketing of the simulator will be done jointly with GECAT, LFT Berlin will handle the booking and contracting arrangements and provide the necessary maintenance.

"We are very pleased to have signed this contract with LFT Berlin," says Peter Niemy, VP of Business Development and Marketing at GECAT. "We've had a good business relationship with Lufthansa Flight Training for quite a while, using a number of their Computer Based Training programs. Now we're extending our collaboration with them into a new area."

"With this cooperative venture in Berlin, the joint activities of GECAT and LFT take on a brand-new dimension," notes Harald Heppner, Head of Corporate Strategy at Lufthansa Flight Training. "The operating lease model enables our Berlin subsidiary to respond to the heavy demand for 737NG training capacity."

LFT Berlin has had a Boeing 737-800 simulator for some time. Similar to the existing simulator the new unit will be equipped with a next-generation visual system, the EP-1000CT of Evans & Sutherland. The doubling of 737NG capacity at Schönefeld airport optimizes training conditions for customers such as Air Berlin, Hapag Lloyd and Germania and affords LFT access to the growing market potential in central and eastern Europe.
