Austrian Airlines Group is working with Lufthansa Flight Training

In future, the pilots of Austrian Airlines and Lauda Air will be optimally prepared for difficult airports and unfamiliar terrain: Computer-based training programs of Lufthansa Flight Training (LFT) are familiarizing the crews of both those Austrian airlines with the world's various airports and environments and their respective features. Captain Christian Korherr, Director Flight Training at Austrian Airlines, explains his choice of LFT: "Our working with LFT really pays off not only qualitatively but also economically. At a modest cost, they permit us to access their software for a large number of airport-familiarization and area-qualification courses." In exchange, the Austrian Airlines Group allows the Lufthansa subsidiary to use the learning stations at its training center in Vienna for other LFT customers.

The fact that computer-based training can be used not only to acquaint pilots with unfamiliar airports and terrain is well understood by Herbert Schwarz, Deputy Director Training at Lauda Air. He uses these self-learning programs to train crews for type ratings for the CRJ and B737-800. "Instead of our pilots' preparing for type ratings in costly simulator sessions, they can take CBT courses anytime anywhere to ready themselves for the qualifying exam ¿ at their own speed and at zero altitude." Michael Böhm, Sales Manager Training Technologies at LFT, adds: "The fact that CBT courses don't require a trainee to be present at any particular time or place ends up saving an enormous amount of time, which is a big economic plus for the airline."

Both carriers of the Austrian Airlines Group use their intimate knowledge of their own respective operations to help LFT's experts program the CBT courses. The learning software is thus adapted to meet the exact requirements of those two airlines and is then installed in the training computers in Vienna.

A wholly owned subsidiary of Lufthansa German Airlines, Lufthansa Flight Training has had decades of experience in training Lufthansa's cockpit and cabin crews. Apart from Lufthansa, many other well-known airlines avail themselves of LFT's expertise in the areas of simulator training, training for emergencies, service training and E-Learning.
