Lufthansa Flight Training has been an independent organization since 1997, and is led by two managing directors.

Florian Hamm
Florian Hamm, born on June 26, 1954 in Lausanne, Switzerland, joined the company in December 2000, and has been the Managing Director of Lufthansa Flight Training GmbH since December 2005. In October 2000, only two months before joining the company, he had returned to Bremen as the head of the same Pilot School in which he qualified to become a pilot himself.

Florian Hamm began his Lufthansa career in 1976 with his training at the Pilot School. From 1978 on, he flew as a First Officer on a Boeing 737, Douglas DC 8, and Boeing 747 aircraft. Following three years of further education at the University of Southern California, he qualified as an Aircraft Accident Investigator in 1989. Until 1992 he was employed as an Assistant to Lufthansa Direct Operations before moving to SunExpress in 1994, where he initially held the position of Head of Operations and Maintenance. He subsequently took up on the post of Managing Director, a position he held from 1996 until October 2000.
Ludwig Merkel (B.S. Economics)

Ludwig Merkel, born on September 8, 1953 in Heidelberg, Germany, has been the Managing Director responsible for Lufthansa Flight Training GmbH's Finance, Human Resources, IT, Marketing, and Sales business segments since 1997.

Following his graduation in Economics from the University of Heidelberg, he joined the company in 1978 as an Administrator for Capacities Planning in the Lufthansa Service Group. In 1987, after initially having moved into the Group's financial controlling department in 1981, he was promoted to the position of Speaker for the Executive Board for Planning, Controlling, and Traffic Operations. From 1990 on, he led various departments of the "Flight Personnel Training" division, and, immediately following its incorporation in 1997, became a member of the Management Board of the new organization, Lufthansa Flight Training GmbH.
